Prosit and the Immune System ![]() Research on immune stimulation has indicated that acemannan, a polysaccharide within aloe, stimulated macrophage cytokine production and killer T cells (Zhang 1996). Chronic exposure to UV radiation causes sunburn, premature aging of the skin and genetic mutations leading to skin cancer. UV radiation causes systemic suppression of immune responses. Strickland (2001) showed that the gel prevented systemic suppression of T cell mediated immune response and the production of IL-10. The aloe polysaccharides are immunostimulants by interfering with the activation of suppressor mechanisms. Acemannan used for HIV-1+ patients showed a significant increase in the number of circulating monocytes and macrophages (McDaniels 1990a). In a pilot study treating HIV infected people acemannan increased the number of white blood cell and improved symptoms (McDaniels 1990b). |
